Academy for Mathematics, Science and Engineering

The Academy for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering is a rigorous, highly competitive four-year program for Morris County students with career interests in mathematics, science, and engineering. The Academy is a collaborative effort between Morris County Vocational School District and Morris Hills Regional School District and is located at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, New Jersey. Students complete a challenging four-year Career and Technical (CTE) program in engineering science.

In addition to the demanding academic coursework required for academy students, all academy members take the following required Career and Technical Education classes:

Through the three-year Science Inquiry and Technology sequence, students develop individual science research projects corresponding to specific career interests. Current student projects involve areas such as aeronautical engineering, meteorology, cryptology, microbiology, computer science, materials science, software engineering, architectural engineering, and computer systems analysis. In their senior year, students work with corporate mentors and complete a 100-hour internship.

The Academy for Mathematics, Science and Engineering maintains a partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology through which students may earn college credits for selected academy courses.

Members of the Class of 2015 have been accepted to some of the most competitive post secondary institutions. 2015 graduates are attending the following colleges and universities: University of California at Berkeley, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University, University of Michigan, Texas A&M University, Boston College, Columbia University, University of Washington, Georgia Institute of Technology, Auburn University, Boston University, New York University, University of Chicago, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Stevens Institute of Technology, Rutgers University (PharmD 6-year Program), Carnegie Mellon University.

Students of the academy may participate in co-curricular programs at Morris Hills High School which include twenty-four interscholastic athletic teams and an award-winning fine arts program. Students may choose from fifty-two service organizations, clubs, and activities including student government, literary publications and five honor societies.
