The Watchung Hills Regional High School learning community is committed to developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively. A culture of inquiry and a focus on authentic, interdisciplinary contexts shape our instructional program, which teaches students to ask questions, solve problems, and deepen their understanding of the relevance of academic skills. Close to 2150 students from Green Brook, Long Hill, Warren, and Watchung meet high academic standards and broaden their worldviews as they explore and take risks, discover their passions, and find individual pathways to success.

A culture of acceptance and an inclusive school community provide an emotionally safe learning environment, and our commitment to the arts, athletics, and co-curricular programs broaden our approach to learning and strengthen our social and emotional intelligences. Our co-curricular program in the arts includes music, drama, dance, writing, and fine arts. The 29 varsity sports teams provide opportunities for students to compete at high levels, and the extensive sub-varsity program gives younger student-athletes the chance to grow. Students also have rewarding opportunities to learn outside the classroom and be part of a larger community by choosing from over 50 clubs and activities, many of which are focused on service.

A substantial majority of the faculty and administration at Watchung Hills holds advanced degrees. Through professional learning communities and school-wide professional development days, the faculty and administration collaborate, share ideas, and advance learning in the school. Faculty and school leaders have written grants, and many have earned recognition for teaching excellence. Working together, we have formed a compassionate community of educators focused on student achievement and emotional wellness.

A supportive and involved community helps make all of this possible. Parents participate actively in the PTO, athletic and co-curricular booster clubs and associations, and several school committees. Community organizations, local businesses, and alumni provide support for our students and strengthen our school. Many alumni are recognized leaders in the arts, business, entrepreneurship, education, law, medicine, military service, philanthropy, professional sports, and science. Included in the list of alumni accomplishments is a Nobel Prize in Physics.

In recent years, we have enjoyed a sharp increase in the number of National Merit Commended Students and Semi-Finalists, and SAT scores continue to rise. Through reflection and a commitment to a growth mindset, we continue to learn and grow, embrace differences, and prepare for an increasingly complex, ever-changing world.
