New Jersey's 595 school districts will receive a total of $4.3 billion in the 1997-98 school year. This represents a $286 million increase from the current school year and is the third largest state aid increase in the last quarter century.
This is the first time in state history that the level of state aid distributed to school districts is linked to the provision of rigorous Core Curriculum Content Standards. The standards, the cornerstone of the state's new funding law, will guarantee a high quality education to all children in New Jersey to prepare them to become citizens in the 21st century.
