Dublin, Ireland - Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation visited Ireland to celebrate their shared history and advocate for increased economic activity between New Jersey and Ireland.

Governor Murphy Meets with U.S. Ambassador
Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, along with Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, CEO of NJEDA Tim Sullivan, the Governor's Chief of Staff George Helmy, and Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Economic Growth Joe Kelley, met this morning with the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin. The meeting was an opportunity for the Governor and the Ambassador to meet at the onset of an important mission that seeks to strengthen the economic bonds between New Jersey and Ireland.
Governor Murphy Kicks Off SelectUSA Industry Roundtable at EY

Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation participated in a roundtable discussion with Irish companies from various industries to discuss New Jersey ’s innovation ecosystem and growth opportunities. The event was held at the EY office and hosted by SelectUSA, a U.S. Department of Commerce office charged with promoting and facilitating business investment in the U.S. After Governor Murphy offered opening remarks, Wesley Mathews, President & CEO of Choose New Jersey, and Tim Sullivan, CEO of NJEDA, offered a presentation on New Jersey ’s key sectors, business opportunities, and incentives. Roundtable participants were introduced by Finola Cunningham, Head of the Commercial Section at the U.S. Embassy, and the discussion was moderated by Jeff Piluso, Markets/Client Executive at EY.
Governor Murphy and Applegreen Executives Announce New US HQ, $126M Investment

Governor Murphy in conjunction Applegreen, one of the largest on-highway service plaza operators in the U.S. and Europe, announced a $126 million investment in New Jersey over the coming years. At a press conference, Bob Etchingham, CEO of Applegreen stated that the company will relocate its Travel Plaza Headquarters to Glen Rock, NJ to add at least 100 new jobs to the region. Applegreen will also redevelop all of the state’s 21 on-highway service plazas in a move that will create 800 new jobs. Choose New Jersey representatives initially met with Applegreen executives during the 2019 Ireland Mission and worked with company officials to locate their headquarters in New Jersey.

Governor Murphy Witnesses Three MOU Signings with Ireland’s Top Universities and Business Incubator

Governor Phil Murphy celebrated the signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between New Jersey City University (NJCU) and Atlantic Technological University (ATU), New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), ATU, and Choose New Jersey, and NJCU and Guinness Enterprise Center (GEC). The MOUs aim to create mutually beneficial opportunities and forge collaboration in innovative projects that foster entrepreneurship, business development, career development, and international education.

Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy had a working dinner with Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence at Iveagh House, the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Affairs, to further strengthen the New Jersey-Ireland relationship. Also attending the dinner were U.S. Ambassador Claire Cronin, Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, Tim Sullivan, CEO of NJEDA, George Helmy, Chief of Staff, Governor’s Office, Joe Kelley, Deputy Chief of Staff for Economic Growth, Governor’s Office, and staff from the Irish Foreign Affairs office.
Governor Murphy Kicks Off Choose New Jersey Reception
Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy attended a networking reception hosted by Choose New Jersey at the Jameson Distillery. Irish business and community leaders, members of academia, and elected officials had the opportunity to network with their counterparts from the New Jersey delegation. The reception also included an optional tour of the famous distillery. Wesley Mathews, President & CEO of Choose New Jersey, made remarks regarding the important economic bonds between New Jersey and the Republic of Ireland before introducing U.S. Ambassador Claire Cronin. Governor Murphy spoke about the success of the trip to date and his optimism for future economic collaboration between New Jersey and Ireland across many key sectors.
