The CHW Training consists of 144 hours of related classroom instruction and between 1000 to 2000 hours of on-the-job-training depending on prior experience of working in the field as a CHW. The CHW will complete related classroom instruction with one of the participating academic partners: Camden, Ocean, Essex, or Mercer College. This training program is currently virtual.

The on-the-job training will be completed by a NJDOH Employer Partner site which will be assigned upon acceptance to program.

CHWs can be recommended to the program and/or express interest by applying directly to the New Jersey Department of Health. Once the application is submitted and reviewed, the CHWs will go through an interview process to be considered for the program.

NJDOH will cover related classroom instruction cost for all participants accepted into the CLG training program.
