Volume Requirements: 2-4ml of appropriate VTM or other appropriate media.

Storage Temperature: Once samples have been transferred into the virology laboratory, they should be tested as soon as possible but may be stored refrigerated at 2-8°C up to 7 days prior to testing. Samples should not be stored at room temperature. Samples should not be frozen.

Transport Requirements: When clinical samples arrive at PHEL for HSV study, and transfer to the virology laboratory they are maintained at 2-8°C by the specimen receiving unit until transferred to the virology laboratory.
