DHS’ Division of Disability Services, in partnership with the World Institute on Disability, links with Vets101
TRENTON - Department of Human Services (DHS) Commissioner Jennifer Velez today announced that the DHS’ Division of Disability Services (DDS), in partnership with the World Institute on Disability (WID), is now hosting a link on its homepage to the Vets101 website: www.vets101.org/.

“Our DDS information and referral specialists work with people who have disabilities, including thousands of veterans with disabilities each year, to provide information and referral to potential services,” said Commissioner Velez. “The Vets 101 link is an ideal addition to the DDS website, where veterans may obtain benefit information, specifically related to their military service.”
Through the Vets 101 website, a veteran may obtain personalized information to make it easier to navigate career and finance decisions. Vets101 was built with the help and input of veterans and veteran’s service organizations, featuring easy-to-read information on over 100 programs from the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Medicaid, Medicare, and the Social Security Administration. Users can create a profile to save customized information.

“DDS began its partnership with WID in 2011, with the launch of New Jersey Disability Benefits 101 (NJDB101), which enables state residents with disabilities to calculate the amount of income they can earn, without jeopardizing their essential federal disability benefits,” said DDS Director Joseph Amoroso. “We are proud to add the link to Vets101, since so many visitors with disabilities to our website and callers to our Information and Referral Service have a military background.”
New Jersey is one of only four, state-specific sites offering the benefits calculator and the Vets101 link.  The Vets101 project was funded in part through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) dollars. NJDB101 is funded by a grant from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is part of the California-based WID’s Employment and Disability Benefits Initiative.

"Armed Forces service members make tremendous sacrifices to safeguard our state and nation.  Through their selfless service, some veterans return home with life-changing injuries and disabilities," said Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, The Adjutant General for the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. "This unique partnership is another step in the right direction to ensure New Jersey veterans -- and all veterans -- are afforded the care and attention they deserve after their honorable and faithful service to our country."

The DHS’ Division of Disability Services (DDS) is New Jersey’s point of entry for disability services and responds to as many as 15,000 requests annually for Information and Referral Assistance on issues affecting people with any type of disability in New Jersey. DDS works in partnership with other state agencies in New Jersey to provide assistance. The DDS toll-free hotline is 1-888-285-3036 or online at www.state.nj.us/humanservices/dds/home/.  For additional information and a list of services from the Division of Military and Veterans Affairs online: www.state.nj.us/military/.
