        -News Release-

TRENTON June 8, 2011 - Employers in the bio-technology, pharmaceutical and life science industries are invited to join job-seekers at a June 17, 2011 “career expo” jointly sponsored by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the non-profit BioNJ Talent Network.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rutgers Student Center on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. It is a tightly focused event that aims to bring employers and industry groups together with people in the Garden State’s talented workforce who have the skills, education and training to assume positions in the state’s growing bio-technology, pharmaceutical and life science industries.

“New Jersey is well known as the nation’s medicine chest because of the number of bio-technology, pharmaceutical and life-sciences businesses operating here,” said Department of Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths. “It’s important for us to link our talented workforce to promising careers in the industries that will continue to drive the state’s economic engine.”

Employers still have time to sign up to showcase their career opportunities, build a pipeline of local talent and get visibility for their organization. Job-seekers are being invited to pre-register to circulate their resumes, network, interview for positions and learn more about the career opportunities just as hundreds of job-seekers did at two similar career expos held in February and April.

“We expect to attract a similar group of attendees for the career expo on June 17th and we are pre-qualifying candidates as industry professionals by requiring a resume at the time of their online registration,” said Vicki Gaddy, Director of the BioNJ Talent Network.

Job-seekers are being asked to issue their resumes in advance by going to the website, Bionj.org, and clicking on the banner that advertises the “BioNJ Career Expo.” There is no cost for employers to participate; however, BioNJ does need to confirm reservations in advance.

To reserve space, contact Gaddy of the BioNJ Talent Network at VGaddy@BioNJ.org, or Megan Lunde at MLunde@BioNJ.org, or call 609-890-3185.

The two past expos drew a highly-targeted audience of job-seekers with a variety of professional experiences, including research and development, business development, finance, legal, regulatory, clinical, sales, product management, quality assurance and quality control and human resources.

“We are looking forward to a great meeting, with exceptional opportunities for people to network and make new connections,” Gaddy said.

Participating employers will receive access to a special section of the BioNJ Talent Network website, which will contain resumes of all attendees. Additionally, companies wishing to pre-screen resumes prior to the event can also reserve a private space in which to conduct interviews.

BioNJ can assist with facilitating and scheduling such meetings.

“This is a great opportunity for job-seekers to meet face-to-face with employers who want to hire workers with specific skill sets in life sciences,” said Anthony Ferrera, director of Workforce Portfolio and Contract Management with the Department of Labor. “We’ve held two prior BioNJ career events, and one of the department’s objectives is to let workers know that New Jersey is a leader in the bio-technology and related industries.”

The career expo held in April drew a diverse group of over 550 job-seekers.

Employers and groups that have already signed up to participate on June 17 include Dendreon, Genzyme, Intrasphere Technologies, Johnson & Johnson, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Laureate Biopharmaceutical Services, PTC Therapeutics, the American Chemical Society,  Ascensilogix, Ashton Tweed, Delta Pharma, Infinity Resources, Joule Technical Staffing, Mancino Burfield Edgerton, NJ Greenhouse, Update Legal and Your Encore.
