        -News Release-

TRENTON- October 14, 2011 Commissioner Harold J. Wirths of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development spoke before the New Jersey Alliance for Action recently, touting Governor Chris Christie’s plan for maintaining New Jersey’s transportation system, which in turn will create jobs.

Citing several infrastructure projects already in the planning stages, Commissioner Wirths said the Christie Administration’s Transportation Capital Program is a pay-as-you-go plan that maintains a robust $1.6 billion, per-year level of state investment for the next five years.

“While each of these projects is important to maintaining our critical infrastructure, they also bring with them a promise of new jobs for New Jersey’s building and construction trades, which were hit hard by the recession,” he explained.

The New Jersey Alliance for Action is a non-profit, non-partisan statewide coalition of over 2,500 business, labor, professional, academic and government leaders.  The organization advocates investment in infrastructure for New Jersey’s economy, environment and quality of life.

Commissioner Wirths addressed about 500 members of the New Jersey Alliance for Action at the group’s Annual Eagle Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick.
