Guests comprised consumers from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Customized Employment, Goodwill Works, and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Employment programs. Earlier this year, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development provided Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey with a $750,000 grant.
Embracing the spirit of the holiday season and continuing Governor Chris Christie’s “Season of Service” initiative, Commissioner Wirths along with other volunteers served guests food and also handed out holiday gifts.
All cabinet officials in the Christie administration are spending time volunteering and highlighting service opportunities as part of the “Season of Service” announced by Governor and First Lady Christie on Thanksgiving Eve. The initiative builds on the same commitment to community the Governor emphasized in his 2010 inaugural address with members of the cabinet volunteering their time in a variety of ways through the end of December.
A “Season of Service” was inspired by 8-year-old Aidan McManus of Burlington Township, who has demonstrated compassion and desire to improve the lives of others in his community.
