“Whenever we meet to celebrate our uniqueness, as we do for Hispanic Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, and in February, Black History Month, we also celebrate the many aspects we share that bind us together as a nation, as a state, as a department, and as a family. New Jersey has such a diverse population and I believe this diversity makes us stronger,” said Commissioner Wirths.
Introductions at the event were conducted by Yolanda Bickham-Dinkins, chairperson of the department’s African American Heritage Celebration. Matthew Frierson, the Master of Ceremonies, spoke about the theme chosen for this year’s celebration, “A Leap of Faith.”
Additional events celebrating Black History Month are planned for the department throughout February.
