Joined by Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths and PSEG Chairman, President and CEO Ralph Izzo, Lt. Governor Guadagno spoke at the OnRamp employer service launch with a demonstration for nearly 100 employers and business association leaders who gathered at PSEG’s corporate headquarters.
“Many people continue to seek jobs, but many employers are also struggling to find skilled workers for key positions,” said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. “While state training programs have helped many workers upgrade their skills for these positions, today New Jersey is making it easier for employers to find and put qualified New Jerseyans to work.”
The features that set apart the new OnRamp tool from other Internet job listing sites include the fact that is part of the state-owned Jobs4Jersey.com, where all services are free of charge. OnRamp also uses state-of-the-art technology, allowing employers to conduct a talent search by listing specific skills, not merely job titles.
Whether an employer seeks one or dozens of people with specialized skills, OnRamp will quickly obtain a list of candidates with the exact talents required.
“With 90 percent of New Jersey’s employers being small businesses, OnRamp can perform the type of employee searches that businesses have neither the time nor the money to handle. It acts like a human resources service,” said Labor Commissioner Wirths.
Larger employers will find OnRamp just as useful. Employers who need to fill dozens of different positions can adjust the company’s account at OnRamp to direct search results to specific department heads. Employers also may mark reviewed resumes, keep track of candidates who were contacted and isolate the candidates who are being advanced.
“The state’s new website will help ensure that we find people with the right combination of skills and talent,” said PSEG’s Ralph Izzo. “We’ve long been focused on workforce development and aware of the need to develop a pipeline of diverse, skilled talent. We’re making major investments that are putting people to work in New Jersey on projects designed to help us deliver clean, reliable energy.”
Headquartered in New Jersey, PSEG is one of the state’s oldest companies and largest employers. The energy company employs about 10,000 people, the bulk of whom live and work in the Garden State.
OnRamp is a feature at Jobs4Jersey.com which already has been helping New Jersey job-seekers find employment. First launched late last year, the interactive system now has more than 100,500 registered job-seekers. It currently holds about 120,000 job openings in the state and up to 258,000 jobs within a 50 mile radius.
Employers and businesses who need guidance on OnRamp or who want to learn about the various hiring incentive programs offered by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development can request a Business Representative to visit them at their place of business. Just go to Jobs4Jersey.com and click on the “Want a free consultation” button.
Additionally, for immediate help using the OnRamp tool, employers may use the e-mail helpline at Jobs4jerseyemployer@dol.state.nj.us or call the 1-877-682-6238.
