NEWTON, N.J., October 1, 2012 – In support of Governor Chris Christie’s commitment to link job-seekers with employment, New Jersey Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths welcomed another class of Jersey Job Club members during an orientation today at the Newton One-Stop Career Center in Sussex County.
Jersey Job Clubs offer job-seekers a structured opportunity to network and to gain expert advice from industry experts about job search techniques, as well as the opportunity to attend workshops on how to improve their resumes and improve employment searches.
William Weightman, manager of the Newton One-Stop Career Center, hosted the orientation with Commissioner Wirths where there are currently close to 40 Jersey Job Club members. Statewide nearly 3,000 members have joined.
“Jersey Job Clubs are one more effort this administration has undertaken to give all of New Jersey's job-seekers access to the most current job search information, tools and resources,” said Labor Commissioner Harold Wirths.
To date, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development has launched 23 Jersey Job Clubs that are located throughout New Jersey. The Jersey Job Clubs are open to all One-Stop Career Center customers, even those who may not be unemployed; however, the goal is to focus and reinvigorate the employment searches of people who are out of work in New Jersey, particularly the long-term unemployed.
Each job club hosts workshops each week that instruct members on effective job search techniques, interview preparation and labor market information that can expose them to the fastest growing industry sectors in the state.
