Commissioner Wirths presented a proclamation from Governor Chris Christie honoring Workers Memorial Day, which has been officially observed annually on April 28 since 1989. New Jersey has a long-standing record of surpassing the national average in on-the-job safety, with fewer people injured at work in both the private and public sector of employment.
“However, these statistics do not adequately reflect the reality felt by workers and their families who face the pain and reduced earnings every single day because of an accident, injury or illness that happened on the job,” said Commissioner Wirths. “To each injured worker and their family, and to every family who had a loved one killed on the job, any accident or injury is one too many. We will never let the statistics make us complacent about the safety of workers.”
