JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. July 28, 2014 _ The Administration of Governor Chris Christie joined an army of service organizations today to help veterans, active duty military members, National Guard and reserve members link with prospective employers.

The job fair, which was open to military spouses, was one of two events scheduled for the Navy Hanger on the Joint Base this week to connect military personnel with employment before they are discharged. The “Hiring Our Heroes” event was co-sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the New Jersey Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The U.S. Army Reserve, The American Legion, NBC News, and other local partners.

Catherine Starghill, Director of Workforce Field Services for the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development, offered some opening remarks to the job-seekers at the start of the career fair. A workshop also was held for veterans and other military job-seekers that focused on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation, and interviewing techniques.
