Your identity will be verified when you first apply for Unemployment Insurance benefits or when you request personal account information changes, such as banking or address changes. It may also be validated annually if you are claiming weekly benefits.
To reduce the risk of fraud, many unemployment claimants must verify their identity using the security vendor ID.me. NJDOL contracts with ID.me to provide multi-factor identity verification services that assist the department in authenticating claimants’ identity in an efficient manner.
If needed, you will be contacted by NJDOL and instructed to verify your identity through a specific weblink connected to ID.me.
The process can be completed in a few minutes using the email address associated with your initial unemployment claim, a computer or mobile phone, and common pieces of documentation.
You also have the option of completing the process via a live video conference session in the language of your choice.
Only claimants notified by NJDOL should verify their identity through ID.me.

Did you verify your identity using the generic ID.me page and not the NJ link that was emailed to you?
If you did not log in to ID.me using the link NJDOL emailed to you, create an account or log in using the specific link in the emailed instructions. Remember to use the email address associated with your initial unemployment claim, which is the email address the ID.me instructions were sent to.
See this FAQ for NJ specific verifications.
Did you verify your identity on the NJ page but used a different email address than the one associated with your initial unemployment claim?
You must update your ID.me profile with the email address associated with your initial unemployment claim. This is the email address the ID.me instructions were sent to. Please follow the FAQ regarding changing your primary email address here. After updating, please allow 7 business days for processing.
Did you not receive confirmation that you verified your identity using ID.me?
Claimants who successfully verify will receive an email from ID.me that reads “You’re Verified!” If you have not received this email, you likely did not complete the ID.me process. Please use the NJ-specific link NJDOL sent you to log in and try again.
