MONROE TWP - The New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) recently honored Francis Sarno as one of five 2005 Correction Officer of the Year recipients. This award is bestowed annually upon one officer from each of the JJC's five secure facilities. Recipients of this award are selected based on outstanding job performance, exemplary work records, and service to their communities.

Correction Officer Sarno began his career in 1997 as a Relief Officer assigned to the JJC's Johnstone Campus in Bordentown. He currently serves as the Max Yard Officer at the Juvenile Medium Security Facility located on that campus, where he is responsible for the security of residents during their recreation periods.

"Through his professionalism on the job and his commitment to his community, Correction Officer Francis Sarno has proven to be a role model and mentor for the juvenile residents in JJC facilities, as well for young people in his community," said Howard L. Beyer, Executive Director, JJC. "The JJC is committed to realizing the potential of the young people in its care and helping them change the direction of their futures. Our dedicated and experienced law enforcement staff play a critical role in fulfilling this mission."

Officer Sarno is married to Lauren and has three children, Kyle, Kole, and Lillian. Officer Sarno is active in his community, volunteering as a little league coach and working with handicapped children. He is a former member of the Barnegat Township School Board and attends St. Mary's Church.

The JJC employs approximately 500 law enforcement officers.
