Juvenile Justice Commission appoints new Superintendent
- John Sellars, Jr. of Sicklerville to lead Campus Program -

TRENTON - The Juvenile Justice Commission's Executive Board recently named John Sellars, Jr. of Sicklerville as the new superintendent of the Campus Program located in Blackwood.

"The Juvenile Justice Commission is pleased to welcome John Sellars as superintendent of the Campus Program," said Bruce Stout, Executive Director. "In his nearly eight years with the Commission, Mr. Sellars has demonstrated his commitment to the troubled youth of this state. Under his leadership, the Campus Program will continue its mission to increase public safety and prepare juveniles to return to their communities as active and law-abiding members of society."

Sellars first joined the Commission in 1993 as a youth worker. He has also held the positions of substance abuse counselor and several supervisory positions with facilities operated by the Commission. He is trained in suicide and depression intervention and handling aggressive behavior.

The Campus Program serves up to 40 males identified with serious substance abuse issues. The program is designed to promote responsibility and initiative among its residents. The Campus Program teaches addicted juveniles to understand the impact of substance abuse on their past behavior, their lives and the lives of those around them.

The Juvenile Justice Commission provides a continuum of services to juvenile offenders including six secure facilities and 22 community programs. Sixteen of the 22 community programs are residential group centers that typically deal with lower level offenders or juveniles preparing to return to their communities at the completion of their sentences. Residents participate in year-round education and vocational programs, community service projects and recreation. Juveniles are supervised by trained staff at all times.
