Who We Are
-
Diverse State
As awareness of our state’s amazing diversity grows, so too do we recognize the significant contribution diversity and equity can lend to our government, armed forces, businesses, and communities.
As such, in accordance with Executive Order No.319, DMAVA has created the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging office. Our goal is to listen, learn, and strive towards greater incorporation of voices from all of New Jersey’s vibrant communities

Mission Statement
We embrace diversity and are committed to the work required to create, nurture, foster, and sustain a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging that results in the individual and collective success of all who serve in our organization.
By valuing great human diversity – gender, race, culture, age, sexual orientation, abilities, skills, experiences, values, hopes, fears and dreams - we value and develop employees irrespective of background and experience, leveraging every strength and unique ability in order to contribute to the greater good.
Vision Statement
We firmly believe collaboration among team members with varied pasts and perspectives are a catalyst for more incisive and deeper insight to better serve and solve the complex issues now and in the future.
We are committed to the creation and implementation of enduring polices, processes, and procedures that will support and maintain an inclusive organization across all disciplines where every employee is a valued member of the team.
What does 'DEIB' mean?
Diversity- Having a workforce comprised of people from a wide array different backgrounds, national & cultural origins, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and gender identities that best reflects the communities and people we serve.
Equity- Creating fair avenues of advancement and accessibility. Offering proportionate accommodation based on all our employees’ unique needs. Giving everyone ample choice and opportunities for contribution within the workplace.
Inclusion- Ensuring every individual’s voice, ideas, and efforts are implemented to propel our workforce forward and enabling our diverse workforce to be the best that they can be in pursuit of our shared goals.
Belonging- Allowing spaces for our employees to be their most authentic selves and the comfort and security to express their unique perspectives and identities. Provide the means to create positive and meaningful connections with one another.
What is the Difference Between Equality and Equity?
Equality is allocating the exact same resources and opportunities to every individual, but that doesn’t mean much when the playing field isn’t even between all people.
Equity is providing proportionate resources and opportunities to individuals that are tailored to a person’s needs so that we are all in the best position to succeed.
