Troopers Arrest Burglars While Attempting to Sell Stolen Property
Quinton Township, N.J. – Troopers from Bridgeton Station arrested two men on Friday March 14 for burglarizing a residence, stealing a refrigerator and a stove, and then attempting to sell the items for scrap.
Neighbors of the Hopewell Township, Cumberland County residence saw the theft taking place as the appliances were being loaded into a silver Chevy pickup and called the State Police. With detailed information about the burglary in progress, Troopers learned that they were looking for two men, later identified as Raymond Bechard, 24, of Shiloh, N.J., and Frank Schwegal, 23, of Shiloh, N.J. It was also learned that they were driving a silver 2000 Chevy Silverado.
Within minutes, Bridgeton Troopers gathered intelligence that the suspected vehicle was parked in front of Salem County Recycling located in Quinton Twp, N.J. Bridgeton and Woodstown Troopers arrived on scene and observed the silver Chevy pick up truck. After an investigation at the scene, Trooper James O’Rourke arrested Bechard and Schwegal in connection to the burglary.
Bechard was found to have a glass pipe in his rear pocket, suspected to be used to smoke crack cocaine. All stolen property was recovered. Bechard and Schwegal were transported to Bridgeton Station for processing.
Both Bechard and Schwegal were charged with Burglary, Theft of Movable Property, and Dealing in Stolen Property. Bechard was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of narcotics. Bechard and Schwegal were lodged on $25,000/full bail in Cumberland County Jail.
Bridgeton Station Commander Lt. James Meyers credits the calls from residents with helping to solve this case. “Once again, the courageous actions of local residents gave us the information needed to quickly make these burglary arrests,” said Meyers. “We always encourage area residents to report any suspicious activity.
Charges are mere accusations and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
