Troopers Help Deliver Baby in Parking Lot
An Early Mother's Day Gift
Frankford Township, N.J. - A Mother’s Day gift came two days early this year for Kimberly Giarratano
when two troopers helped deliver her third child in a parking lot on Friday, May 9, 2014.
Robert Giarratano was halfway to Morristown Memorial Hospital from Dingman Township, P.A., when his wife’s
labor pains intensified. They decided to reroute to Newton Hospital and called 911 seeking a police escort.
Sussex Barracks Troopers William Cisko and Luis Jacinto were told by dispatchers that the caller was traveling
southbound on U.S. 206 with his hazard lights activated. The troopers found the couple standing outside of their
minivan that was parked in the lot of the Frankford Township Municipal Building.
When Robert told the troopers that the baby’s head was visible, they immediately placed Kimberly in the rear
compartment of the minivan. Within seconds, the baby girl was delivered successfully. The troopers cleared the
baby’s airway, wrapped her in a shirt, and held her until the first aid squad arrived.
While the couple was busy having their third child, their two boys, 4 and 2, remained inside the van the entire
time. Trooper Cisko drove Robert and the boys to Newton Hospital, while Trooper Jacinto followed the ambulance.
"Please tell Troopers Jacinto and Cisko that I am indebted to them for their help in the delivery of my little
girl," said Kimberly Giarratano. "…the stress and scariness of the situation was alleviated tremendously because
of their calm and assured presence. While I was being transported to the hospital, my husband said the officers held
my older son’s hand and turned what could’ve been a traumatic experience for the boys into an exciting evening with
state troopers. I feel like, in this case, words are simply not enough to express my sincerest gratitude."
