Troopers Seize Machine Guns and Drugs From
Residence in Newark
Newark, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police Street Gang North Unit arrested a Newark couple on drug and gun related charges as the result of a
narcotics investigation.
On Thursday, October 11th, troopers observed Anthony Prince, 41, of Newark leave his Halstead Street residence in a blue Mercedes Benz. As detectives
attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, Prince exited the vehicle and fled on foot. As troopers gave chase, Prince was observed tossing what was later
determined to be 59 bricks of heroin to the ground. Prince was quickly captured and placed under arrest.
After the arrest, a court authorized search warrant was executed at Prince’s residence. The house which is located in a residential neighborhood in Newark
was fortified with steel gates and video surveillance. As troopers entered the residence, they found Latoya Johnson, 28, of Newark inside with two small
children. During a search of the house, troopers discovered a large quantity of heroin, firearms, and cash.
Anthony Prince was charged with various drug and weapon offenses, Child Endangerment, Receiving Stolen Property, Maintaining a Fortified Structure,
Resisting Arrest and Tampering with Evidence.
Latoya Johnson was charged with various drug and weapon offenses, Child Endangerment, Receiving Stolen Property, Maintaining a Fortified Structure, and Tampering with Evidence.
Anthony Prince was lodged in the Essex County Jail with bail set at $150,000. Latoya Johnson was released pending a court appearance.
The following items were seized during the search warrant:
- 135 Bricks and 14 Bags of Heroin valued at $67,640
- One Intratec 9mm Machine Gun
- One Cobray 9mm Machine Gun
- One Ruger 9mm Handgun
- One Taurus 9mm handgun
- One Taurus .45 caliber handgun
- $5,645 in cash
- $43,500 in jewelry
- Four cars including an Audi R8, five all terrain vehicles and one motorcycle. The total value of the vehicles is estimated at over $187,000
- Five flat screen televisions
- Home security system and monitors
The charges are merely accusations and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
The case will be prosecuted by the Division of Criminal Justice under the Office of The Attorney General.
