The second annual contest is sponsored by the Gloucester County Highway Safety Task Force, which was organized in October 2002 by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of making the county’s road safer through education, police training and law enforcement.
“This contest enables students to learn more about the dangers of drinking and driving. With the prom season almost upon us, it hopefully will make them think twice if they’re considering that decision.” county Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said.
Members of the task force, which includes county government officials, police officers and members of organizations such as AAA and MADD, judged more than 50 videos produced by nearly 150 students at eight county high schools. Each 90-second spot, which includes music, dialogue and statistical information, demonstrates the consequences of driving after drinking, drug use or sleep deprivation.
Winning videos will be shown Thursday night on a big screen at the United Artists Theaters in Washington Township. Regal Entertainment Group donated theater time for the event. Scholarships and other donated prizes will be presented to the top student video-makers. State Attorney General Peter Harvey is scheduled to attend the awards night. |
