MONROE
TWP - The New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission
(JJC) recently honored Francis Sarno as
one of five 2005 Correction Officer of the
Year recipients. This award is bestowed
annually upon one officer from each of the
JJC’s five secure facilities. Recipients
of this award are selected based on outstanding
job performance, exemplary work records,
and service to their communities.
Correction Officer Sarno began his career
in 1997 as a Relief Officer assigned to
the JJC’s Johnstone Campus in Bordentown.
He currently serves as the Max Yard Officer
at the Juvenile Medium Security Facility
located on that campus, where he is responsible
for the security of residents during their
recreation periods.
“Through
his professionalism on the job and his commitment
to his community, Correction Officer Francis
Sarno has proven to be a role model and
mentor for the juvenile residents in JJC
facilities, as well for young people in
his community," said Howard L. Beyer,
Executive Director, JJC. "The JJC is
committed to realizing the potential of
the young people in its care and helping
them change the direction of their futures.
Our dedicated and experienced law enforcement
staff play a critical role in fulfilling
this mission.”
Officer Sarno is married to Lauren and has
three children, Kyle, Kole, and Lillian.
Officer Sarno is active in his community,
volunteering as a little league coach and
working with handicapped children. He is
a former member of the Barnegat Township
School Board and attends St. Mary’s
Church.
The JJC employs approximately 500 law enforcement
officers.
