Today
in court the Attorney General’s Office
unsealed a state grand jury indictment containing
eight new charges against Melanie McGuire.
The indictment was returned by the state
grand jury on Thursday but was sealed until
today’s hearing before Superior Court
Judge Frederick P. DeVesa in Middlesex County.
Judge DeVesa imposed new bail on the charges
of $100,000, which is in addition to the
$2 million bail previously set by the judge
on the original charges against McGuire
of murder, possession of a weapon for an
unlawful purpose, desecrating human remains
and perjury. The Attorney General’s
Office filed a motion today asking the judge
to join the new charges with those original
charges for purposes of trial.
