Trenton, NJ – Attorney General Anne Milgram has promoted Daniel W. Foster to be the next administrator for the Department of Law & Public Safety. Foster, who was deputy administrator, succeeds Kimberly Ricketts, the new acting commissioner of the Department of Children and Families.

Foster, 58, has worked for the Department of Law & Public Safety for 20 years, beginning in the department’s fiscal management unit. In January 1995, he was appointed deputy director of Finance and Facilities Management, with responsibility for the preparation and planning of budget documents, capital requests, and spending plans for fiscal and facilities operations. In October 1996 he was elevated to director of Finance and Facilities Management. Former Attorney General Stuart Rabner appointed Foster deputy administrator for the department in January 2007, where he continued to oversee the department’s finances and facilities.

“During his career at Law & Public Safety, Dan has proven invaluable for his exhaustive knowledge, expertise, and good judgment,” Milgram said. “I have come to rely on and appreciate his talents and his experience during my two-and-a-half years as attorney general and first assistant.”

The department has an annual budget of approximately $1 billion with 9,100 employees in ten divisions, including the State Police, the Division of Criminal Justice, the Law Division, the Juvenile Justice Commission, Consumer Affairs, Civil Rights, Highway Traffic Safety, Alcoholic Beverage Control, Gaming Enforcement, and the Racing Commission.

Foster lives in Medford with his wife MaryBeth.
