ATLANTIC CITY – An exciting new gaming experience has been set in motion for Atlantic City casinos. The Division of Gaming Enforcement’s Mobile Gaming Regulations, temporarily adopted in the New Jersey Register on October 1, became effective on October 8, 2012.

The temporary regulations will remain in effect for a period of 270 days with a proposal for final regulations to be published by the Division within 60 days.

“These regulations are another example of the cooperation of all our partners and use of our own imaginations to move past the prescribed technology,” said Division Director David Rebuck. “I am proud of my staff who worked through this year long process, reviewing regulations from all over the world and working with various manufacturers to understand and develop the mobile gaming regulations. Most importantly in this process was the development of regulations that provided safeguards to prevent underage gambling and to continually ensure the integrity and security of mobile gaming in New Jersey.”

Mobile gaming is simply electronic versions of authorized games played on mobile devices. Under New Jersey law, that means the use of iPads, iPhones and other wireless devices, in addition to devices issued by the casino.

Mobile gaming will be allowed in any area located within the property boundaries of the casino hotel facility, including any recreation or swimming pool and excluding parking garages and parking areas.

“We are looking forward to having Atlantic City casinos take advantage of mobile gaming and we see these regulations as one more step in the expansion of gaming opportunities afforded to Atlantic City customers,” said Rebuck.

Gaming software affecting wagers or gross revenue require the software provider to obtain a gaming related casino service industry license.
