TRENTON –The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force is conducting an investigation of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred last night, March 14, 2019, in the City of Trenton. A male civilian, Jason Williams, 42, of Trenton, was fatally wounded. No other injuries were reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, Trenton Police received two separate 911 calls at about 10:46 p.m. reporting a man who was suicidal or threatening to harm himself in the 600 block of North Olden Avenue. Four Trenton police officers responded to the scene. When they arrived, they encountered Williams in the doorway of a residence holding a handgun. During the encounter, two officers fired their service weapons and fatally wounded Williams. Williams was taken to Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead. Police recovered a gun from the scene that was determined to be a BB gun.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to the recently enacted law, Senate Bill 1036, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
