MEASUREMENTS

VOLUME

Forage numbers may vary from one location to another. These are realistic approximations and should be used when answering the "Population Dynamics" worksheet:

1 acre of pine forest = 70 pounds of forage per year

1 adult deer requires 3,600 pounds of forage per year to survive

LENGTH

¼ mile = 1,320 feet
3/8 mile = 1,980 feet
1 mile = 5,280 feet
1½ miles = 7,920 feet

AREA

1 acre = 43,560 square feet
