NJDOT announces ramp closures at Route 9 interchange with Bordentown Avenue in Sayreville
Major pavement improvement project advancing through Middlesex and Monmouth counties

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a series of entrance and exit ramp closures at the Route 9 interchange with Bordentown Avenue the next two weekends in Sayreville. The ramp closures are necessary for paving and drainage work in conjunction with a major ongoing roadway rehabilitation project addressing Route 9 in Middlesex and Monmouth counties.

Beginning around 10 p.m. on Friday night, November 1, NJDOT’s contractor, Intercounty Paving Associates, is scheduled to close the ramp connections between Route 9 northbound and Bordentown Avenue for the weekend, to reopen around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 4.

• Route 9 northbound motorists destined for Bordentown Avenue will be directed to continue to the Route 9/Route 35 merge to use Raritan Street to Route 9 southbound back to Bordentown Avenue.

• Bordentown Avenue eastbound motorists destined for Route 9 northbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to Route 35 southbound to make the first U-turn to Route 9/35 northbound.

• Bordentown Avenue westbound motorists destined for Route 9 northbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to Ernston Road to Route 9 northbound.

Then on Friday night, November 8, at around 10 p.m. the contractor is scheduled to close the ramp connections between Route 9 southbound and Bordentown Avenue for the weekend, to reopen around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 11.

• Route 9 southbound motorists destined for Bordentown Avenue will be directed to continue on Route 9 southbound to Ernston Road to Bordentown Avenue.

• Bordentown Avenue eastbound motorists destined for Route 9 southbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to S. Feltus Street to Main Street to merge with Route 9 southbound

• Bordentown Avenue westbound motorists destined for Route 9 southbound will be directed to continue on Bordentown Avenue to Ernston Road to Route 9 southbound.

The $37.6 million project is repaving sections of deteriorated pavement on Route 9 in both directions from milepost 116.7 in Manalapan Township, through Marlboro, Old Bridge, Sayreville, and South Amboy to the vicinity of milepost 135.6 in Woodbridge Township. The project will extend the useful life and improve the surface rideability of the highway, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders, ramps and median openings.

NJDOT is maintaining all travel lanes open in each direction during peak-period commuting hours throughout construction, utilizing traffic shifts. Single and double-lane closures will be allowed during overnight hours to perform the mainline resurfacing work. NJDOT is closely coordinating with NJ TRANSIT, which operates five bus routes, 38 bus stops and six Park and Rides through this stretch of the highway, to limit the impact this project will have on their service. The project, which was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers, is expected to be completed in fall 2014.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
