Route 1 & 9/Haynes Avenue improvement project completes this week in Newark
Haynes Avenue eastbound closed tonight for pavement work
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the Route 1&9/Haynes Avenue operational improvements project will be finished this week with the completion of paving on Haynes Avenue eastbound between Frelinghuysen Avenue and Route 1 & 9 in Newark, Essex County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Monday, April 1, until 3 a.m. tomorrow, NJDOT’s contractor Anselmi and Decicco, Inc. is scheduled to close and detour Haynes Avenue eastbound between Frelinghuysen Avenue and Route 1 & 9 for pavement work. With the completion of this pavement work, Haynes Avenue will be reopened and the project complete. There may be some minor work over the next month or two that may require overnight lane closures.
The following detour will be in effect tonight:
Haynes Avenue eastbound detour
- Motorists traveling on Frelinghuysen Avenue wishing to take Haynes Avenue to Route 1 & 9 will be directed to continue on Route 27/Frelinghuysen Avenue northbound
- Turn right onto Route 22 eastbound
- Follow signs for either Route 1 & 9 northbound or southbound
The $14.2 million federally-funded Route 1&9/Haynes Avenue operational improvements project was designed to improve safety and traffic flow by constructing a new roundabout at the intersection of Route 1&9 southbound, Haynes Avenue, and Bessemer Street. A third lane and shoulder were added between the Haynes Avenue exit ramp and the Anheuser-Busch entrance ramp, the Route 1&9 southbound ramps were realigned, and the roadway was repaved.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page
