Tuckerton to Brick

This ride follows the Barnegat Bay front from Stanley H. "Tip" Seaman County Park in Tuckerton to Mantoloking Bridge County Park in Brick Township. Traversing communities which are distinguished as both coastal Pinelands communities and as part of the "Jersey Shore", this 47-mile route offers access to a range of activities on the mainland, at the bay and on the coast.

Riding through the coastal Pinelands towns, you can discover unique maritime traditions of the past and present and experience the relationship between culture and nature on the Barnegat Bay. Constructed mainly on the flat terrain of a historic rail corridor, most of this ride parallels the Barnegat Bay. Free parking and indoor bathrooms are available at the start and end points of this ride.

Visitors will find an endless mixture of attractions and activities to complement their ride through the Pinelands and shores of the Barnegat Bay. A few of the many attractions are highlighted below.

Stanley H. "Tip" Seaman County Park, Tuckerton
Located on the western shore of Tuckerton's Lake Pohatcong, Stanley H. "Tip" Seaman County Park is a jewel in the Ocean County Parks system. This 22-acre park provides a range of amenities which includes fishing, an open play area, picnic area, shuffleboard, a small boat launch and walking paths. The park is best known as home to the Annual Ocean County Decoy and Gunning Show. This two-day event in September draws exhibitors and visitors from the entire eastern coastline and beyond and has been named as one of the top 100 events in North America.

Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen's Museum, Tuckerton
This 40-acre site includes 17 historic and recreated buildings representing the maritime culture of the Barnegat Bay region. Connected by a boardwalk, the village features a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail, two houseboats, a decoy gallery, a working boatworks building, decoy carving workshops and the recreated Tucker's Island Lighthouse. You can also explore the New Jersey Surf Museum, with exhibits covering the origins of surfing, its close connection with the environment and the science behind ocean waves. Barnegat Branch Trail
This multi-use trail runs along the 15.6 mile abandoned rail corridor of the Barnegat Branch Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey between Barnegat and Toms River. While only 7.22 miles of the trail have been constructed in sections through Barnegat, Ocean, and Berkeley Townships, and Beachwood Borough, the trail will be extended its full length in future construction phases. This 10-foot wide trail has a stone dust surface and features several designated parking areas, benches, bicycle parking, mile markers and interpretive signs.

Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge - Barnegat Observation Platform, Barnegat
This observation platform, carefully tucked along Bayshore Drive between Ridgeway and Edison Avenues, overlooks a 300-acre freshwater marsh. Located in one of the Atlantic Flyway's most active flight paths, visitors in the spring and fall may observe migratory birds stopping to rest and feed. Open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Barnegat Bay Beach, Barnegat Township
This free municipal bathing beach is not only a great spot for swimming and sunbathing in summer months, it's also an optimal location for bay views and bird-watching year-round. By standing on the water's edge you can view the Barnegat Lighthouse across the bay.

Huddy Park, Toms River Township
This historic site located along the river in downtown Toms River was the site of an attack by the British during the Revolutionary War. Today, you can sit on a picnic bench or under the gazebo to enjoy the view of the river or go crabbing or fishing. Between May and October, the parking lot is the site of the downtown Toms River Farmers Market.

The River Lady, Toms River
The River Lady, an authentic replica of a paddle wheel riverboat (and the only true stern-wheeler in the state), is a cruise ship that tours the riverbanks of the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. The landscape surrounding these riverbanks includes rolling hills, well-manicured lawns, and uniquely designed homes, many dating back to the turn of the century.

Island Beach State Park
Although not directly on the tour route, this state park presents the opportunity for a wonderful side trip. Stretching for 10 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and the Barnegat Bay, it is one of the last significant patches of barrier island ecosystems remaining in New Jersey and is home to the state's largest osprey colony. The park's dunes and white sand beach are attractive to swimmers, sunbathers and surfers. Modern bathhouses, beach access ramps, a mile of beach with lifeguards, historic buildings, trails, diverse wildlife and interpretive programs make this park worth exploring.

Traders Cove Marina and Park, Brick Township
This 11.5-acre municipal park with spectacular bay views features a public boat ramp, a travel lift, a walking path, picnic benches, parking facilities, landscaping and a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant playground believed to be the largest boundless playground on Barnegat Bay. It also provides easy access to the recently opened F and T Coves, which are managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

Mantoloking Bridge County Park and Fishing Pier, Brick Township
This recently renovated county park, adjacent to Traders Cove Marina and Park, provides a recreational area on the Brick side of Mantoloking Bridge. Appealing to those looking to fish, crab or sightsee, the park features a 70-foot fishing and crabbing pier, a boardwalk, picnic area, sun shade, gazebo, indoor bathrooms and lighted paths.
