State Begins Mailing NJ SAVER Rebate Applications
transparent element

Blank SpaceTRENTON -- John E. McCormac announced today that the Division of Taxation has begun mailing the 2002 NJ SAVER Rebate Application Packets this week. Application packets will be mailed to New Jersey homeowners over a two-week period.

Blank SpaceNew Jersey residents who owned a home that was their principal residence on October 1, 2002, and paid property taxes on that home may be eligible for the 2002 NJ SAVER rebate.

Blank SpaceUnder Governor McGreevey's proposed FY 2004 budget, nearly $200 million in SAVER program spending is being shifted to provide additional education aid to school districts. The proposed changes would also affect income eligibility for the program, reserving SAVER for filers with incomes below $100,000. Since program eligibility can still change between now and when the budget is adopted by the Legislature, applications are being sent to all potentially eligible residents. Last year, the program provided 1.2 million checks to eligible filers with incomes under $200,000.

Blank Space"Our objective is to encourage all potentially eligible New Jersey homeowners to apply for this tax relief program," said Treasurer McCormac. "While the final terms of SAVER may still be subject to change between now and when the budget is adopted, it is important to get applications into position for processing by maintaining the normal mailing schedule," he said. "Timely filing helps the Division of Taxation to apply all program changes to applications and prepare checks for mailing," he said

Blank SpaceThe NJ SAVER rebate automated telephone filing system and the Internet filing application are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "Homeowners who have received their application packets can file for the NJ SAVER rebate by phone by calling 1-877-658-2972, or online at www.njsaverrebate.com," said Robert K. Thompson, Director of the Division of Taxation. Anyone who may be eligible for a 2002 NJ SAVER rebate and who has not received their application packet by June 13, 2003, may call the NJ SAVER Rebate Hotline (609-826-4282) to have one mailed to them.
