Unclaimed Property Administration

Technical Transition FAQs

Where can I search for unclaimed property during the transition?

During the six day period (May 26th thru May 31st) it takes the Unclaimed Property Administration (UPA) to implement its new software system and web applications, there will be no public web based tool for searching for unclaimed property and submitting claims. We apologize for the brief inconvenience.

I have documentation I want to submit to support a claim I previously submitted?

Please email these documents to upadocs@treas.nj.gov. Please include your last name and the claim ID in the subject heading of the email. When the new unclaimed property management software is launched, your documentation will be ready for our Claim Processors to review.

I already created an online claim account when I submitted my claim. When the new online property search and claim submission application turns on will my account credentials still work?

No, the new application will not require a user account. You will be able to submit a claim by simply providing your personal information and you’ll be able to check the status of claim or upload claim documentation with only your name and claim ID (CID) number.

Will there be another way to submit a report during this 2 week shutdown?

No, the Report section needs this time to finish preparations for conversion to the new unclaimed property software system.

Will the new Online Holder Reporting application reject any unclaimed property file types?

Yes, the new application, beginning June 1st, will NOT accept reports in the HDE file format.

Will the use of the new reporting application be mandatory?

Yes, the UPA will only accept reports through the new reporting application. Paper reports or emailed reports will be rejected.

Can I make a payment now on a report and submit the report after June 1st?

Yes, you can wire funds using our Fed Wire Instructions or you can mail a check to our office. Be sure to include information, on company letterhead, regarding the report pending submission.
