The SADC, in collaboration with the American Farmland Trust, offered land access workshops for beginning farmers in 2018-2019.

The goal of the workshops was to help next-generation farmers determine their readiness to access land, understand land tenure options, and conduct good site evalutations when looking for land. The following workshops were offered:

Workshop - Assessing Your Financial Readiness to Access Land

This workshop was held on October 25, 2018 in collaboration with Farm Credit East.

Workshop - Leasing and Purchasing Land

This workshop was held on February 28, 2019. See the following links for the presentations from the workshop:

Participants learned about the elements of a good lease and what to consider when leasing; review purchasing options; identify the steps in securing a lease or purchasing land; and practice strategies for successful negotiation.

 

Workshop - Assessing Farmland

This workshop was held on April 8, 2019 (workshop flier).

Participants learned how to conduct a land assessment by gathering relevant information about a land parcel, and they used certain criteria to evaluate a plot of land.
