The Vineland Prep Academy serves up to 60 juvenile males with various needs. The program=s participants include those identified as substance abusers and those preparing to transition back their communities. Vineland Prep also includes a day program component that serves youth from Cumberland County. An innovative curriculum is designed to promote emotional growth, reframe self-destructive belief systems, develop coping skills, and create self-efficacy among its participants. Vineland Prep Academy provides a positive atmosphere for youth to learn and grow through education, job readiness, spiritual development, and substance abuse treatment. Vineland Prep implements a variety of community activities that offer healthy alternative experiences to the negative lifestyles many have become accustomed to.
The program teaches juveniles with substance abuse issues to gradually understand the impact that substance abuse had on their lives and those around them. A cognitive-behavior, social learning curriculum, New Freedom, is utilized to help residents address the various issues that lead to their incarceration.
Vineland Prep=s career/technology educational component includes computer lab, culinary arts, career education, photo lab, and horticultural/landscaping. On-site greenhouses allow the program to grow seasonal crops and ornamental harvests. Students cultivate flowers and ornamental trees, and distribute or sell these items as part of their community service to the City of Vineland, Cumberland County, local hospitals and the Office of the Attorney General.

Through the JJC’s Restorative Justice Program, residents learn the interconnectedness of communities. Residents learn to give back to their communities as a way to correct the wrongs that they have done. In addition to various community service projects, many residents participate in the Restorative Justice Speakers Bureau, which guides students through a process that empowers them to share their life experiences in a manner that builds self-confidence. Restorative Justice staff equipt the JJC students with the public speaking skills to present themselves positively to diverse populations. As part of their presentations, JJC students encourage community youth to adopt healthy lifestyles and to value their education.
Vineland Prep Academy also contains a transitional component that is designed to receive residents from the JJC’s New Jersey Training School, Juvenile Medium Secure Facility, and Community Programs. As part of the transition process, a continuum of services is designed to meet the aftercare needs of each youth as outlined by the NJ State Parole Board, JJC Juvenile Parole and Transitional Services, the sending JJC community program and the individual residents. Included is a “step up” component designed to address and assist youth who are at risk of violating the conditions of their parole. Parolees are permitted to return to the program for 14 B 30 days in order to make modifications to their plans and obtain any assistance they need to remain complaint with their parole plans.
The JJC’s Restorative Justice Staff has designed a two-month training curriculum to prepare students wishing to participate in the Speakers Bureau. The students are guided through a process that empowers them to share their life experiences in a manner that builds self-confidence. Restorative Justice staff equipt the JJC students with the public speaking skills to present themselves positively to diverse populations. As part of their presentations, JJC students encourage community youth to adopt healthy lifestyles and to value their education.
