FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, January 15, 2019
TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced the Division of Housing and Community Resources (DHCR) will be accepting pre-applications for the lottery for placement on the statewide Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program waiting list. Pre-applications to enter the lottery will be accepted from February 4th through February 8th between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The lottery is to gain placement on the statewide Section 8 HCV program’s waiting list.
“The Housing Choice Voucher program is one of DCA’s core services for making housing affordable for New Jersey families,” said Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, who serves as DCA Commissioner. “This program helps New Jersey residents who are most in need find and move into permanent, stable housing.”
The pre-applications will be accepted online during the five-day period at: www.WaitlistCheck.com/NJ559. All pre-applications submitted during this time will be entered into a database and screened for eligibility. A total of 15,000 eligible applicants will be selected through the lottery and placed on the waiting list. Individuals with questions about the lottery should dial 2-1-1 for further assistance.
To be eligible for the HCV program, residents must be in low-income and very low-income households based on the income limits established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older to apply or be an emancipated minor. Applicants must have an email address to apply. Web browsers such as Google Chrome, Fire Fox, or Internet Explorer 10 or higher are recommended.
If you have questions about the lottery, please dial 2-1-1 for further assistance.
Disabled persons who need assistance with submitting their pre-application may contact DCA at (609) 292-4080 and select Option 1 or 8 from the Menu to request a reasonable accommodation.
After submitting an application, applicants can learn if they were selected for the waiting list by logging on to www.WaitListCheck.com on or after February 22nd.
