Supreme Court knocks out Child Sex Abuse Accommodation Syndrome

On July 31, the NJ Supreme Court ruled that expert testimony in child sex assault cases on the Child Sex Abuse Accommodation Syndrome will no longer be permitted.  This decision was the direct result of the work of new Appellate Deputy Joe Russo and ADPD Lauren Michaels from the Appellate Section.  They worked tirelessly to make the case against CSAAS at the remand hearing before the trial court, and then Lauren convinced the Supreme Court to uphold the trial court’s ruling.  This is another example of how we can shape NJ law on the right issues in the right cases if attorneys are willing to go above and beyond in their efforts to do so.
