Late Breaking News

Nonprofit Group Is Formed To Assist NJ Wildlife Volunteers

In an effort to raise funds for the state's wildlife volunteers, the newly-formed Partnership for Wildlife Volunteerism, Inc., has introduced an attractive line of clothing. Each item, including caps, t-shirts, polo shirts, and more, features the custom embossed "I Support" Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife logo. The clothing line, listed on page 16 of the NJ Fish & Wildlife Digest, can be ordered either direct from the Digest or by calling 800-548-2384.

The Partnership for Wildlife Volunteerism, a tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated to the support of those individuals who donate their time, energy and knowledge to New Jersey's wildlife resources, was formed, notes the organization's Executive Chairperson Jeanne Gorrissen, "to ensure that New Jersey's over 1500 wildlife volunteers have adequate funding in order to enable them to continue their service involvement in Wildlife Law Enforcement, Hunter Education, and Wildlife Research and Management. The Partnership is also dedicated to supporting the work of volunteers involved in various programs, including the Bald Eagle Restoration, Bear Management, Fish Restoration, as well as introducing newcomers to the outdoors through the Becoming An Outdoors-Woman program. Funds derived from the sale of this new clothing line will support these efforts."

In addition to this fund raising program, the Partnership is also planning numerous events, such as a celebrity sporting clays shoot, the sale of a first edition pocket knife, and a corporate sponsorship program.

Individuals or organizations who want to contribute to this effort or obtain more information can contact the Partnership for Wildlife Volunteerism, Inc., Suite 31, 301 North Harrison Street, Princeton, NJ 08540-3512.

Fewer Ducks This Fall

Fewer ducks will be migrating south this fall, warns the US Fish and Wildlife Service. According to the agency, approximately 84 million ducks will hit the airways this year, compared to 92 million last year, with mallards accounting for 11.7 million of the total. This year's lower numbers are attributable to a dry winter and a warm early spring on the northern prairies in the north central US and south-central Canada where the majority of ducks breed and nest. Ducks Unlimited has been working hard to make sure more habitat is available all the time and, since its founding in 1937, has raised more than $1 billion to conserve 8.2 million acres of habitat in North America.

Attention - Migratory Bird Hunters

Before hunting woodcock, snipe, rail, ducks, geese, brant, coot or gallinule within the state, it is mandatory to call 1-800-WETLANDS. You will then receive a Harvest Information Program (HIP) number to record on the front of your license. Have your NJ hunting license ready when you call, and remember that although this number is valid for the entire fall/winter season, a new number is required each year.

Discounted Junior NRA Membership

H&R 1871®, Inc., makers of New England Firearms® and Harrington & Richardson® youth shotguns and rifles, is working with the NRA to provide a specially discounted Junior Membership to young shooters who receive a new H&R 1871, Inc. youth model firearm. The program includes a special NRA annual membership for $10 instead of the normal $15 to allow the Junior shooters the ability to access all of the information and services provided by the NRA. If your child owns a youth model firearm produced by H&R 1871, Inc., that was purchased before the start of this program, write to H&R 1871, Inc., NRA Jr. Membership Offer, 60 Industrial Rowe, Gardner, MA 01440, for a special discounted application.
