Clade I Outbreak Originating in Central Africa
On August 14, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), recognizing the potential threat of clade I type of mpox.
There have been no reported cases of clade I mpox in the United States, including New Jersey. The current risk to the general population in the United States is low. Clinicians should immediately report suspect clade I mpox cases to the local health department where the patient resides.
