Alert: Clade I Outbreak Originating in Central Africa

There has been one case of clade I mpox reported in the United States. This individual is in California and had recent travel from Eastern Africa. No additional cases in the U.S. have been reported at this time.

There have been no cases of clade I mpox in New Jersey. The current risk to the general population in the United States is low.

Clinicians should immediately report suspect clade I mpox cases to the local health department where the patient resides.
