On July 16, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the publication of a final rule on ‘duration of status’ that impacts foreign students, exchange visitors, and media representatives. The final rule includes reforms on fixed admission caps, mandatory federal extensions, reduced departure grace period, and program change restrictions. U.S. Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Releases 2026 Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions
On July 2, 2026, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) released the 2026 Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions, which includes 19 planned regulations from the US Department of Education. The agency rule list is available on OIRA’s website. This Agenda provides public notice about plans to issue changes to regulations.
