Student and Exchange Visitor Program Hosting Webinar on New Final Rule for Duration of Status
On August 31, 2026 from 2-3pm EDT, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will be hosting a webinar on the new final rule, “Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure for Nonimmigrant Academic Students, Exchange Visitors, and Representatives of Foreign Information Media.” The webinar will include a review of major regulatory changes and answer frequently asked questions. Attorney General Davenport and Division on Civil Rights Announce New Section to Safeguard Civil Rights of Students
On July 23, 2026, Attorney General Davenport and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR) announced new actions to safeguard the civil rights of New Jersey students, including establishing a new Education and Public Accommodations Enforcement Section and a new partnership with the National Center for Youth Law. These actions will expand DCR’s capacity to address discrimination in K-12 schools, universities , and other settings covered under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. New Jersey Joins Multistate Coalition to File Amicus Brief in Support of Harvard’s Lawsuit Challenging Unlawful Federal Research Funding Freeze
On July 23, 2026, New Jersey joined a multistate coalition in filing an amicus brief in support of Harvard’s lawsuit challenging the Federal Government’s decision to freeze and terminate research funding. The amicus brief argues that research universities are essential to state economies and removal of this funding can have devasting impacts on the states.
