|
Peter C. Harvey was the state’s first
African American Attorney General. He was
confirmed by the New Jersey Senate on June
16, 2003. Prior to being confirmed as Attorney
General, Harvey served as Acting Attorney
General. Prior to that, he served for more
than a year as First Assistant Attorney General
and Director of the Division of Criminal Justice.
He also served as a partner in the New Jersey
law firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland
and Perretti. |

Before
entering private practice, Harvey served as
an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District
of New Jersey. Prior to that, he served as
a Special Assistant to the New Jersey Attorney
General. Harvey graduated from Morgan State
University in 1979. He earned his law degree
from the Columbia University School of Law
in New York City in 1982. He was admitted
to the New York Bar in 1984, the District
of Columbia Bar in 1985, and the New Jersey
Bar in 1989. |
