CUSTOMER ADVISORY

Newton, Medford, and Salem MVC Centers Closed

TRENTON – The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has announced that the Newton Vehicle Center, Medford Vehicle Center, and Salem Licensing Center are closed due to a single employee testing positive for COVID-19 at each location.

Newton Vehicle Center will be closed until Wednesday, Jan. 20. The employee who tested positive was last in the Newton Center Tuesday, Jan. 5

Both Medford Vehicle Center and Salem Licensing Center will be closed until Saturday, Jan. 23. The single employee who tested positive at each of these locations was last in the Center Friday, Jan. 8.

Eight MVC Centers currently are closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19 at each location. These Centers are scheduled to reopen on the following dates:

  • South Plainfield Licensing Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Somerville Vehicle Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Delanco Licensing Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Springfield Vehicle Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Rahway Licensing Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Newton Vehicle Center – Wednesday, Jan. 20
  • Medford Vehicle Center – Saturday, Jan. 23
  • Salem Licensing Center – Saturday, Jan. 23

Manahawkin Vehicle Center, Toms River Licensing Center, and Edison Licensing Center will be reopening tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 12. All three Centers will resume full operations after the closing of quarantine and full COVID-19 cleaning.

All MVC Vehicle Centers are open by appointment only, with no walk-ins allowed, while MVC Licensing Centers accept walk-in customers for new permits, licenses, and non-driver IDs.

License/ID renewals that cannot be completed online, including for those with visa restrictions, require an appointment. Renewals are not available on a walk-in basis at Licensing Centers.

Appointments at Vehicle and Licensing Centers are scheduled 30 days in advance at NJMVC.gov. The MVC adds thousands of appointments each day, and customers should check online early in the morning and at multiple MVC locations to best secure an appointment.

If a customer can no longer make a scheduled appointment, the appointment should be canceled using the guidance in the email provided by the MVC upon booking, in order to open up the appointment slot for others.

Customers should log on to NJMVC.gov to check the status of locations, complete all available online transactions, schedule appointments, and learn more about MVC operations. Customers also can identify whether a license or vehicle transaction is available online, by appointment, or by walk-in using the “How do I…?” Cheat Sheet in the Quick Links on the MVC home page.
