Trenton Regional/Vehicle Center Closed Jan. 16, 20; Freehold Licensing Center Appointment-Only Jan. 16

TRENTON – The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has announced that the Trenton Regional/Vehicle Center will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 16, and Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the direction of Governor Phil Murphy, in order to properly facilitate security measures within the City of Trenton and the State Capitol area.

In addition, Freehold Licensing Center will be open by appointment only tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 16, due to staffing limitations unrelated to COVID-19.

No walk-in customers will be allowed at Freehold on Saturday. Driver knowledge testing has been canceled at Freehold on Saturday, as well.

As previously announced, all MVC facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.

Seven MVC Centers also remain closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19 at each location, and are scheduled to reopen on the following dates:

  • Springfield Vehicle Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Rahway Licensing Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Newton Vehicle Center – Wednesday, Jan. 20
  • Medford Vehicle Center – Saturday, Jan. 23
  • Salem Licensing Center – Saturday, Jan. 23
  • North Bergen Licensing Center – Monday, Jan. 25
  • Lodi Licensing Center – Monday, Jan. 25


All MVC Vehicle Centers are open by appointment only, with no walk-ins allowed, while MVC Licensing Centers accept walk-in customers for first time permits, licenses, and non-driver IDs.

License/ID renewals that cannot be completed online, including for those with visa restrictions, require an appointment. Renewals are not available on a walk-in basis at Licensing Centers.

Appointments at Vehicle and Licensing Centers are scheduled 30 days in advance at The MVC adds thousands of appointments each day, and customers should check online early in the morning and at multiple MVC locations to best secure an appointment.

If a customer can no longer make a scheduled appointment, the appointment should be canceled using the guidance in the confirmation email provided by the MVC upon booking, in order to open up the appointment slot for others.

Customers are reminded that most basic license and registration renewals and replacements can be completed online. Nearly 30 different online services and transactions are available at the MVC website.
