TRENTON -- Detectives and Investigators from the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control arrested eight Monmouth University students early today on charges of underage drinking at Stingers Bar and Grill in Long Branch. In addition to the students, bar manager Raymond Lepree, 40, of Bradley Beach, was arrested on charges of allowing the consumption of alcohol by underage bar patrons.
According to ABC Director Jerry Fischer, investigators from the Division were inside Stingers, located at 656 Ocean Avenue in Long Branch, as part of ABC’s “College Initiative” underage enforcement program. Fischer said the investigation began after ABC received information from the administration at Monmouth University regarding on-campus advertising by Stingers that promoted “College ID Thursday” at the bar. Such advertising is prohibited by the university.
Seven of the eight Monmouth University students charged with underage drinking are New Jersey residents. They include: Maggie McPartland, 18, of Old Tappan, Kristen Demuth, 19, of Jackson, Robert Cole, 20, of Jackson, Janna Koch, 20, of Garwood, Maria McPartland, 20, of Long Branch, Jenna Schauder, 20, of Jackson, and Lindsay Scholz, 20, Mountainside. Also charged with underage consumption was Monmouth student Courtney Killard, 19, of East Meadow, NY.
All charges filed this morning are disorderly persons offenses. If convicted, the underage patrons face fines of not less then $500 and a six-month suspension of their drivers’ licenses. Upon conclusion of the municipal court cases, the matter will be reviewed by the ABC to determine appropriate administrative charges against Stingers’ alcoholic beverage license. Members of the Long Branch Police Department assisted ABC Detectives and Investigators in making the arrests.
