Garetta H. Baird's many contributions to agriculture reflect her lifelong devotion to the Garden State.

In partnership with her husband Horace, Baird has worked their poultry, vegetable, small fruits and greenhouse tomato operation since 1946. Baird has also served as Secretary to the President of the New Jersey Farm Bureau since 1983. A member of the New Jersey Farm Bureau Executive Committee, she is secretary to the Bureau's Board of Directors.

A member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and its chairperson, Baird is also a member of the Mercer County Board of Agriculture, serving as both Board and membership secretary. Baird served as treasurer of the Vegetable Growers' Association of New Jersey, Inc. and has served as Mercer County's Women's Committee representative on the New Jersey Farm Bureau Board of Directors. In addition, Baird has served as first vice president of the New Jersey Farm Bureau Women's Committee.

An active member of the Mercer County Women's Committee since 1960, Baird chaired the committee from 1962 to 1964. She also chaired the New Jersey Farm Bureau Women's annual spring meeting.

Baird was honored with the New Jersey Farm Bureau Gold Pin and received Mercer County's citation in 1979 in recognition of her service to agriculture and to the people of the community. In 1990, the New Jersey Farm Bureau Women presented Baird with the Marguerite Richie Award as Farm Bureau Woman of the Year.

Locally, Baird is a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church and its Women's Group.

In recognition of and appreciation for her lifelong service to New Jersey's agriculture industry, the State Board of Agriculture is proud to present Garetta H. Baird with its citation for Distinguished Service to New Jersey Agriculture.
