FAQ About Adding a Business to Your PBS Account and Accessing Your Online Services

Question Response
I created a PBS account and now I want to make a payment and/or submit a filing. What do I do? To access your online services, including your tax and employer filing/payment services, log into PBS and add a business to your account Once you have finished adding a business, click on the “Tax and Revenue Center.”
I need a PIN to add my business to my PBS account. What is the PIN? This is any valid PIN issued by the State of New Jersey Division of Taxation or the Division of Revenue. For instance, your quarterly wage reporting (WR30 or NJ927) PIN can be used. If you do not know your PIN, check with the Chief Financial Officer or Accountant for your firm who should be able to provide this information. (Please note that the Division of Revenue intends to move away from PIN issuance, and instead ask businesses to set up PBS accounts whenever possible.)
I don’t have a PIN and need to enter the secondary information about my business (business type, year in which you began business operations in NJ and mailing zip/postal code). What do I do?

If you do not have a PIN, for security reasons, we request secondary business information. To find the information, we suggest that you review your tax and charter document files and/or consult with your attorney or financial adviser. For your business begin year and mail-to zip/postal code, you may use the “Effective Date” and “Address” reflecting on your Business Registration Certificate (BRC). Also, your charter filings or tax filings should reflect your business type and business zip/postal code.

I have an older business and don’t remember or don’t have the year in which I began business operations in NJ and/or am not sure what my mailing zip/postal code is. What do I do? Access your Business Registration Certificate (BRC) online: You may use the “Effective Date” and “Address” reflecting on your Business Registration Certificate.

I tried to access my Business Registration Certificate online repeatedly and I received one of the following messages:

  • “There was no match on the fields entered. Please check your search fields and try again. Remember, we must find a match on the Name Control and one other search field.” Or

  • “We're sorry, but the registration status of this business cannot be determined at this time.”

If you just registered your business online, allow 3-5 business days for the various system updates to be completed in the background and then try to add your business to your PBS account again.

If you are unable to obtain a BRC online, call 609-292-9292 during business hours -- Option 1, for further assistance. There may be a problem with your business status that requires attention and/or your tax/employer registration record may contain incorrect information and/or be required missing information.

I just registered my business – within the last two work days, and cannot add it to my PBS account. What do I do? If you just registered your business online, allow 3-5 business days for the various system updates to be completed in the background and then try to add your business to your PBS account again.

If you submitted a paper document, allow 20 business days for your registration to be entered into our system and then try to add your business to your PBS account again.
I am not registered. What do I do?

Register your business, allow 3-5 business days for the various system updates to be completed in the background and then try to add your business to your PBS account again.

If you cannot find answers to your questions here, please call 609-292-9292 – Option 1, during business hours.
