Description
Interviewing job candidates has major importance on organizational objectives. Not only are interviews utilized to place the right people in the right jobs, but also to keep the right people in the right jobs. Interviewing must be grounded in sound knowledge and excellent technique while incorporating the principles in Equal Employment opportunity (EEO) Legislation. Interviewing is a learned skill that will be taught in this program.
Learning objectives include:
- Differentiate selection interviewing from other types of interviewing
- Describe and follow a three-step model for selection interviewing
- Define the terms:
a) Bona fide occupational qualification
b) Essential job function
c) Marginal job function
- Develop appropriate questions designed to assess and evaluate a candidate's strengths and weaknesses
- Articulate the purpose of EEO legislation
- Describe the four basic components of discriminatory practice identified by Title VII of the Equal Employment Oppurtunity Act
- Identify unlawful interview questions/inquiries based on the restrictions imposed by EEO laws
- Describe behaviors and characteristics of effective interviews critical to projecting a positive agency image
- Identify ways in which to improve the selection of appropriate candidate interview process, within the context of civil service constraints.
